This past Valentine's Day weekend for me was spent in the most unconventional way...without my husband! Now, let me explain before you begin worrying. Months ago before we moved from Southern Oregon our close friend Dan invited Aaron to join him and his brothers on a snowboarding trip to Mt. Hood. My reaction was, "WHAT?! Valentine's Day weekend?! Are you kidding me?" Well, it turned out that the weekend of February 14th really worked out best for all their schedules, so I was fine with it as long as Dan's wife, Jacquelyn, could stay the weekend with me. And she did, along with two other girlfriends, Yumiko and Julie, who decided to join us! Besides, Aaron's taking me to a really nice hotel this weekend as a belated Valentine celebration...without the kids, thanks to his parents! I can't complain.
I had such a blast with my friends...it was an absolute treat having them here. Our first night we made Valentine dolls for our girls, and of course, these little dolls had to be adorned with a shoulder bag filled with candy, felt cookies and suckers, among other little gifts. It was fun to finally present to the girls all the valentine treats/crafts I've made over the last month!
Clara's doll is on the left, Avery's is in the middle, and Naomi's is on the right. The hairstyles created for each one was done to mimic how the girls' hair is typically worn.
Before presenting the dolls to the girls, we had them hide in Avery's room while we decorated the tabletop with their gifts, then created a heart trail made of paper hearts that led the girls from their room to the table.
Here's a picture of the collection of dolls that were sewn that weekend:
Needless to say, we had a splendid time!
If you would like to make your own doll you can find the free template

(side note: We enlarged the pattern a tad to make them slightly bigger)
Until next time...
xoxo,
