Here'a a fun Valentine idea I saw on a blog last year. I wish I could remember where I found it to give the creator proper credit! When I find it, I will.
These were seriously a hoot to make. So, so fun.
To make them, when taking the picture, have the person stick their arm out and close their fist as if their holding a sucker. After printing the pictures, use an exacto knife and create small, horizontal slits just above and below the closed fist, then slide the sucker through it. I added the text and "sticker tag" at picnik.com.
After I was done taking the older girls' pictures, I grouped all three girls together for some shots for the grandparents. As you can see from the pictures, Clara was in her own world.
I love this next one.
And yes, Jane has her finger up her nostril. The grandparents won't forget this one!!
I found this sucker bouquet at Target--12 for $2.99. After seperating them, I trimmed the stick a bit. I would've loved to make the suckers myself but no homemade treats for school anymore. Boo.
We definitely love these valentines, but the girls will still be making hand-cut hearts to put with them. Afterall, Valentine's Day woudn't be Valentine's day without handmade paper hearts! We'll also use some of the cute ideas from this little book we found at our library yesterday.
Heck, I think we might just have to have a Valentine parade like these kiddos are having...
Such cute illustrations!
And cute projects.
Oh! And before I forget, I made some more Puff Balls! This time I used tulle--it's so much better than tissue paper!! They'll be perfect for Valentine's Day.
If you want to make some, this is what I did--I purchased 4 yards of each color--light pink and pink. With each color, fold the 4 yards length wise, and then fold over again--this width will be about 13". Using measuring tape, cut the long folded tulle into 13" squares. Cut the folded ends of the squares so there are piles of 4 cut-up squares. Pile 8 squares (you can pile more if you want to create a fuller look--try 10 or 12 ) together and starting on one side of the pile, fold it back and forth accordian style, like your making a paper fan; fold in half to find the middle. Using fishing line, tie a knot around the middle of the folded tulle. After the knot it tight and secure, seperate the layers until it forms a puff ball. You're done! Now hang it from the ceiling--I used masking tape. There's one additional step if you want to make the puff balls a little fancier--after you tie the knot around the middle of the tulle, cut the ends so it forms a rounded edge--like a half circle. I think this gives the puff ball more of a flowery look.
Let me know if you have questions about this, or if you would like some pictures of the different steps. I'm sure good ole Martha explains it much better than me, and you'll probably be able to find instructions on her site for tissue paper puffs. I have to say though, that I prefer using tulle over tissue paper. Tissue paper tends to break when you need to seperate the layers to puff it out. Plus, I love the transparency of the tulle.
(4 yards of tulle will make about 4 12" puffs. If you want more or want them bigger, you'll need to purchase more tulle!)
Well, that's it for today! Happy Wednesday!
