One Dang Good Playdough Recipe

My mother-in-law shared this recipe with me and I think it's the best! I will never buy playdough from the store again. It lasts forever and the girls love making their own colors...you will not be disappointed. My girls are playing with it right now as I type--they are going on almost an hour of playdough fun!

And to "funktify" the dough add glitter to it! (Thanks, Jami, for giving me this idea!)

1 Cup Water

1 Cup Flour

1/2 Cup Salt

1 Tbsp Oil (I used Canola)

2 tsp Cream of Tartar

Food Coloring

Stir ingredients in large pan over low heat until it thickens to the point it's too difficult to stir (this takes a while to do!). Remove from pan and allow to cool a bit. Knead on counter until smooth (add desired amount of glitter at this time). Store in airtight container to keep fresh and pliable.

(fyi--I doubled the recipe with no problems at all)

Hens and Chicks (& eggs, too!)

Yesterday, I just had to get out of the house. Though I was a bit worried about taking all three girls out by myself for the first time I did it anyway, and Canby, Oregon was our destination. We drove the 1 1/2 hour drive to my hometown so we could visit my Dad and younger sister, Holly, who is flying back to New York tomorrow. I'm happy to report the girls did great! Jane slept the entire way and Avery and Clara watched a video on our portable DVD player. I used to be against doing that sorta thing but now I'm a fan.

Before heading back home I visited my parents' backyard to gather a few Hens and Chicks to bring back home. No, not those kinds of hens and chicks but these kind...

Succulents! I would have never thought to care for these plants inside the house until I saw the idea at Anthropologie a couple months ago. Thank you, Anthropologie...that's just one more reason to love you.

And of course while we were there Avery and Clara helped Papa gather the eggs from real hens. I think they collected five but Dad sent two dozen home with us!

I LOVE fresh eggs. Store-bought eggs don't even come close to comparing to them. We used six of them this morning to make a big batch of pancake mix to use for the rest of the week. Thanks, Dad!

I love the color and size variation.

Free Hat Pattern!

Good morning, everyone! I'm actually feeling rested at the moment, despite the fact Jane has been waking up every two hours throughout the night. (So if there are multiple typos here, please forgive me!) I figured I'd take this time to let you know where I found the pattern for the hats I knitted for her. Have you heard of ravelry.com? (I also want to welcome Lisa, a new reader, who was one of a few people who have recently requested this pattern...I'm so glad you are enjoying my blog! I hope you like the pattern.) The only variation I made to the bow version was knit a seed stitch (7 rows) for the rim--this prevents the rim from rolling, which I've never been a fan of.
