It's late. Really late. But I can't really sleep right now due to a delicious nap I was able to squeeze in this afternoon (hooray!), so I thought I'd post pics of today's adventures, which mostly consisted of celebrating Miss A's last day of school!! (Does anyone else have that Alice Cooper song stuck in their head??)
Miss C and I had been planning on making a cake for her for a few days, which we did this morning. Kinda. Let me explain... In my pantry I found a naked bag of chocolate "cake mix" that was displaced from its box before our move (thanks to baby Jane). I kept it and decided when it was time to make it I would use the directions on the back of a different cake box, so that's what we did this morning, but it was pretty runny, so I added 1.25 cups of flour before baking it.
But the texture was nothing like cake.
Can you guess what went wrong? Yep, the "cake mix" was actually a brownie mix. Ack! Oh well, though, I was not going to let that deter our plans in surprising Miss A with a cake! I made some chocolate frosting, spread it on the "cake" (or should I say only a thin slice of it because it was SO dense) and sprinkled it with some pretties, to try and improve the aesthetic of it.
And to show that I'm not completley OCD when it comes to the presentation of gifts/dessert for a party, I'm now showing you a picture of the said cake and the gorgeous (ha!) gift wrapping of some "summer" presents I gave the girls to kickstart our first day of summer! Some of the presents were quickly wrapped in tissue paper without any taping at all... yes, I think I'm kinda proud of myself with being ok with lowering my standards in the presentation department! I'M MAKING PROGRESS, PEOPLE! I'M RELAXING A LITTLE! ha ha!
A bag of aquatic animals was the first gift they opened (used a 50% coupon at JoAnn's and got it for only $5!). I mostly purchased these for bath/pool toys, but the girls played with them for over an hour today. In fact, when tucking them into bed tonight, I saw that Miss C had made a "bed" out of one her shoes for the seal and layed it next to her bed. No joke. I think she used tissue paper for the blanket. Or maybe it was a sock. I'll try to snap a shot of it tomorrow.
A velcro ball toss game was another gift (plucked from the clearance rack at JoAnn's)...

And I think this is my favorite gift I gave them. Richard Scarry is one of my favorite children's authors, and I knew I wanted to gift the girls with this game as soon as I saw it months ago. The players work as a team to get to "Picnic Island" before the pigs eat all the food. This 6-foot board game provided lots of fun for the older girls until baby sister woke up from her nap and got in the way. Perhaps it will be one of those activities they can only play with when Jane's napping.
Yes, summer is here. Finally!
