Noggin Warmers

I'm gonna dig out my knitting needles this weekend and get busy making the girls some hats.  But whatever I make, I'm not sure they're going to be as cute as these colorful wool hats my friend Erin made for them.  Aren't they wonderful??  They kept their lil' noggins warm while camping a couple months ago...

What beats wearing one hat?  Wearing two!

Thanks again, Erin, for the hats!!  The girls will be wearing them constantly these upcoming months!  Miss you.

There's a new store in town...

and Avey's a part of it!  It's the cutest little consignment shop here in Longview, WA, on the corner of Broadway and Commerce in downtown Longview. 

And let me tell ya, if you're local, you are in for a treat! 

This is Avey's spot, which is only a small portion of the store.  It's classy, eclectic, and just plan fantastic.

I love her style.  Don't you?  If you're from around Longview, you must stop by this sweet little shop.  You'll also enjoy the many other vendors that are there.  I think I've bought something from each one of them.  There's always something new each time I visit, which I love.  It makes me want to keep coming back.  :)

I helped give away over 250 books today!

And I was a frog while giving away all those books.

And my friend Tracy was a fish.

And we had fun. Lots of fun!

We helped with RIF (Reading Is Fundamental), which is a government sponsored literacy program whose mission is to: "To motivate young children to read by working with them, their parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of everyday life. RIF's highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8."

Like I said, Tracy and I were pond creatures in honor of the two books we selected to read to the kiddos.

And we brought a couple pet fishes to cheer us on...

And a frog to boot!  

The kids loved them.

And of course we invited the kiddos to sit on our lilypad in the pond.  Wouldn't you if you were a frog or a fish??

We read to nine different classes from Kindergarten to Third grade.

Then the kids were allowed to pick out a book to take home and keep.  The homework we gave them?  To read, read, read! :)

Swedish fish were enjoyed by all...

I hope we helped get these kiddos excited for reading.  As I always say, "Read more, Less TV!!". 

Here are a few pictures I took last week while selecting books from the RIF room.  And this room?  It put a big smile on my face.  What a wonderfully enriching program for children.

Leaves & dandelion wishes... a perfect Autumn day

Instead of cleaning up breakfast dishes this morning Miss J & I headed outside to celebrate the first day of Autumn.  Did you know Fall is my favorite season?  It is.  I absolutely love it.  There's a beautiful sense of renewal that comes with this time of year, filled with inspiration.

And since today was also quite warm & sunny, I thought I'd try to squeeze one more summer dress out for Miss J.  It seemed quite appropriate with the perfect blend of summer and fall weather. 

She wasn't too fond of the little bench I perched her on, so she quickly set off for Miss Harriet's yard...

To our delight leaves were sprinkled all about!

And it should've been no surprise with the magical mixture of Summer & Autumn that Miss J found a dandelion wish among the leaves...

I hope her wish was that this weather will linger around for awhile.  I'll be sad when it's replaced with wet, drizzly rain.

Upon returning back to the house Miss J found one last blueberry on the bush.  What a perfect way to end summer, wouldn't you say?  I agree.

A request for the fairies...

Oh my, I think this just might be the cutest thing I've seen in a while.  Miss A taped a sign to my door while I was laying in bed earlier....

For those of you who need a translation it reads: "Fairies, please help my mom".  The speckly thing under the bed next to the kleenex tissues is a fairy wand, sprinkling magic on me. 

I tell ya, I love that little gal.

And perhaps the fairies did visit me today because I am feeling a tad bit better.  :)

Hello friends,

I'm feeling a wee bit under the weather today.  A darn cold attacked me and won the battle.  So I'm hangin' low and being gentle with myself today.  In fact, I think I just might take a nap right now, which is something I rarely do.  Let's hope I can turn off my mind and drift off to slumberland.

Party Two: A Vintage Strawberry Shortcake Birthday for 2!

Last month both Miss A and Miss C turned one year older only 2 days apart.  Upon their request for a "joint" party, we did so at my parents' home.  

Now.  Onto the Strawberry Shortcake part.  Did any of you play with the original Strawberry Shortcake dolls in the 80's? Yes?!  Great!  Then you'll understand why I couldn't wait to give my little girlies these dolls I bought from Ebay!  (If you know me well you already know that I'm not a fan of the modern Strawberry Shortcake dolls.  Not a bit, really.  And why should I be when I can get the REAL thing?  I was also able to score a vintage tablecloth, party hats, and wrapping paper for a killller deal. I just couldn't pass them up!) 

Okay.  I'll calm down & get to the pictures now...

Dad's gonna get me when he sees these photos on here.  Hi Dad!  I just couldn't resist a picture of a rough & touch cowboy wearing a cute lil' Strawberry Shortcake party hat! :)

Pure excitement, I tell ya!

p.s.  The girls' strawberry dresses came from the 3 lil muses etsy shop.  Do you remember them from 2 years ago?  They still fit the girls!  They're just a little shorter, so I just have them wear some cute little leggings underneath and they're good to go!

A splendiferous sewing party... Lisa style!

Medford, Oregon was our getaway destination spot a couple weekends ago.  What a wonderful time we had with dear friends... friends that we greatly miss since moving away from there three years ago.  While there my friend Lisa hosted a sewing party, and oh my, does she know how to throw a party!  And this wasn't just any old sewing party as you shall soon see by the pictures... it was a Heather Bailey party!  We used her fabric (mostly hers!) and her pattern to make a darling little book bag. 

Of course I brought good ol' Mable along!

And my Ottomon pincushion.  (Summer, I use it allll the time!)

 

And there was food... boy, was there food!

My bag is second from the right.  I think each one turned out perfect!

What's new? I'll tell ya.

I just finished up all the orders!  Yee-haw!  But it's late.  Pretty late.  And I can't sleep so I thought I might as well be productive and catch ya'll up on what's new around here.

Miss A started her first day of 1st grade yesterday!  Oh, how that little gal was excited.  She was all smiles alllll morning long.

 

And while big sis was at school today little Miss C and I pretended to be The Little Red Hen while we ground some wheat to make bread.  But not just any old bread... we made Blueberry Zucchini Bread!  And boy, is it good!

And did you know that Miss C is a great little helper?  Yes she is, by golly.

 

She's a good little eater, too!

But Miss J?  Not so much.  All FOUR of her canine teeth are erupting right now so she didn't gobble her bread down like she normally does, poor thing.

There's so much more that we've been up to, but I think that's all I'm going to highlight tonight.  Little Miss J will be up before I know it so I better catch some zzz's.

Hello everyone.  :)

Just wanted to jump on here real quick to let you know the shoppy shop is open right now until around 7 pm tonight (Pacific Standard Time).  Thanks for all the orders that have been placed so far!  I'm so thankful for each transaction.  It puts a smile on my face that people want to purchase my creations.  Many people I've never met that live in different places all around our world.  It's a bit humbling, I must say.  And I hope you know that with each earring, necklace, or accessory that is made, it's made with love, and a little part of me, and that I put care and attention into each little detail, because I love what I do.  I love what I make.  And I love that I get to send it off to you!
